For those of you with Fox at 10:00 pm tonight you can forget about all worries of Pagan, Fev et al and enjoy the Golden Age as they are showing the 72 GF - a truly amazing game.

I have that game on DVD.

One of the best first halves of football played in our history.

I used to live next door to Tom Hafey. Said it was his worst moment of his career.

Watch Big Nick directing traffic plus bobbing up for a sixpack of his own.
Those tree trunk legs gave him a big vertical jump.

I hadn't watched that game for a while. It's amazing how much the game has changed but it also made me realise that if we had Big Nick & Jezza on the full-forward line, Southby & Swan on the last line of defence plus Keogh, Armstrong & Perc Jones in the middle, in today's side then I doubt we'd be talking about tanking.

One fave moment, Jezza & Sheedy going for the ball on the HFF, a little tap & a shrug of the hips - Sheedy was left on the ground looking like an idiot and Jezza was off towards goal.

Just a great era that - 68 (should have won again in 69), 70, 72, and 73. And to think we then had to wait an eternity until 79! How times have changed!

72 was the grand final Richmond shoulda-woulda-coulda (similar to Essendon* in 99)

I remember 72 vividly. ....

Big Nick was always - ALWAYS - the no.1 ruck. That day he promoted Percy to that role. An absolute master stroke. It was the day that Robert Walls with 6 goals was just everywhere. I thought that after the first quarter when we posted 8 goals was superb, but it was followed up by another great second quarter - game over at half time.

The atmosphere was different to 1970. That was just an emotional rollercoaster. 1972 was about making up for 1971. It also smacked of a touch of the new found Carlton arrogance. Almost as if a premiership was expected.
