This statement indicates that both Gibbs and Murphy have been given new contracts....

I though Murphy was out of contract this year?

Bryce Gibbs has another year. Marc Murphy was signed for three years originally.

This article suggests that Murphy is out of contract this year...

Bugger. But as Dane said I'm sure they'll sign up Murph soon.

Great news not only for us supporters but it also shows how professional and organisations should run. This is a far cry from the shambles of player contracts of last year.

Am rapt that these two kids along with simpson who signed earlier will be part of our future for at least the next 2 years. Looking forward to seeing them develop further and taking the comp by storm.

Thumbs up to Swann and Icke.

It's been club policy for some time to put all players on 2 year deals except in exceptional circumstances (Murphy and Gibbs perhaps along with any stars acquired via a trade).

No more blown out long contracts and players will earn what they deserve rather than being underpaid or overpaid in their 3rd year based on form prior to the contract.

I believe there are other clubs doing similar (Geelong?).

Also means you're less likely to have major standoffs as players will be more likely to accept incremental increases rather than go for the jackpot "deal to set me up for life" contract.

I'm really pleased that they've both signed, it shows that the club is heading in the right direction.

Also pleased that Swann and Icke have got this done with a minimum of fuss, true professionals.

Why would a club offer a 2nd year #4 pick only a 1 year contract?

Tbird got his 3 year deal in the end.

I wonder if the new board/CEO will stick so steadfastly to the 2 year rule?

In more good news, Nick Stevens was given the all-clear by medical staff to commence his long recovery.

His surgeon is pleased with Stevens’ progress following neck surgery and has given him clearance to commence jogging and stationary bike riding from next week.

Hopefully this is fair dinkum, and there's no setbacks in the future.

He got the all clear form the medical team yesterday from reports on ch 7.

Watching him in the crowd you wouldn't know he's had neck surgery either as he was moving his head left and right without any discomfort at all...
