There's no comparison between Cousins and Angwin!

If Cousins stays at WC, he will put up with the stigma forever.
If he goes to a club that is gunning for a premiership and takes a while to get going - he'll be labeled as washed up.
If he goes to Carlton and teaches a young and talented midfield how to run all day, tackle and use the ball efficiently - then he will regain his place amongst the elite midfielders of the comp.

Worsfold's negativity towards his return mean that WC will not be a a strong bargaining position in the draft, ie Cousins would be a lot cheaper than Judd.

Forget the high moral ground and judge him on his football.
There are a few high profile players who have done much worse than Cousins.

Mmmmmm, I wonder what number we should give him? 8)

Nah, still don't buy it.

We need a no flower policy, a la the Swans more than we need a player of Cousins "qualities".

Your theory of an older player with unquestioned on field stature to help our kids might be sound, but...

Reported links to underwold gangland identities.
Doing a runner, leaving his car behind before an RBT setup.
Shitfaced, literally paraletic, at Crown Casino and stupid enough to be photographed.
Sent packing by his own club for an "addiction" that he refers to as "issues".

And that's just the stuff we've heard about.

Are you guys thinking before you post?

Haha, touché. ;)

I still stand by my comments. I reckon Cousins has about 3 transgressions too far for mine.

Your two exceptions above have done nothing that really ranks closely to the crap Cousins has served up, and in Spida you could say he's a definite "hope we can bag another flag" signing.

Maybe the pro-tankers would happily take Cousins as a "hope we can bag another spoon" recruit then?

I just hope like hell that nobody at the club who matters is even considering Cousins.

Great post re the Dawks list. And it sums up us v them superbly. The frustrating thing for us is that we're going to take longer to catch up due to the rule change re PPs.

All we can do is keep working hard & smart.............and sack Dennis of course.

BTW I would have thought Cousins is a bit old at nearly 29 to consider recruiting ??

I hear what you're saying re past history...... I am aware/and have read closely all articles re Cousins off-field.
A player of that ability is worth the gamble for a struggling side though, surely?
Having said that though, I wouldn't offer the earth for him because I believe that worsfold has shot himself in the foot as far as his bargaining power goes.
I'd say "here's our offer - take it or leave it."

There may well be other midfield options available by the time the draft comes around.
My original point was that this year we should think outside the square a bit and recruit some experience.

Not suggesting that we trade heavily for an experienced player. 8)

The draft picks we get this year IMO need to be used on kids. Judd is probably the only player that would make me think about trading a pick. I wouldn't trade for Cousins as I think the baggage he would bring is just too much. Whether or not we get a priority pick I think our first picks must be used on the best players available.

We have a few ruckmen on the list, a few key position defenders, a few utilities, some key position forwards, and some options for the wings but we do lack goal kicking midfielders with speed and skill as well as some fast strong small defenders.

We have a young team at present but they are getting bigger stronger and more experienced each year. By season's end Bentick, Simpson, Betts, Carrazzo, will have all passed that nominal 50 game mark. That makes them experienced AFL players and added to Ackland, Fevola, Fisher, Houlihan, Koutifides, Lappin, Scotland, Stevens, Thornton, Waite, Walker, Whitnall and Wiggins there is a fir bit of experience around the club. Then we have Anderson, Blackwell, Murphy, Gibbs, Jackson, Kennedy, OHailpin, Russell all at different stages of their apprenticeship plus some other kids just starting. Kids bring excitement to the team, the club the supporters and the sponsors.

I think we now need to look at the team and try to build more depth and speed in the midfield. If you look at the Eagles, Swans, Freo, Pies etc they have some senior big bodied midfielders and some young speedsters being brought along. Stevens injured and Murphy targetted exposes our lack of depth there of really classy fast midfielders. Now if we managed to get say Masten and perhaps Cotchin plus Selwood I would be very happy. Can always dream.

The problem is that 2 of those players will most probably retire at the end of the year and there are 3 others that have been there awhile and not really done a lot.
I'll let people figure the names for themselves, but it's the reason why we need a blend of youth and experience in the centre square.

The problem is highlighted when we play the physical sides such as WCE.
Their mature sized midfielders are too strong for the young guys.

We need another quality, mature midfielder to help out so that Scotland and (when fit) Stevo are not left with the whole burden.
