Over the past two weeks I have noticed something with the our forward line.
Lance seems to be the major culprit in this as well.
Say a mark is taken 40m out at any angle.
Instead of going back and kicking for goal, some of them are keen to handball it to a player running by.
9 times out of 10 it is always a turn over.

Happened a number of times against the Dees and was one of the factors that saw the Dees get back in the match.
I'm all for sharing the ball around and letting others snag a goal or two, but if someone like Lance is in range and can kick the goal, I say go for it.
Don't care how many goals you have kicked already, kick another one!

You may find that it is a set play to try and go for a nine pointer.

I can understand when someone such as Fev is 50+ out, but when someone like Lance has marked inside 50 I reckon he should back himself and kick the goal.

As I said the amount of turn overs produced from this tactic was incredible.

Will be interesting to see how this tactic changes given that most goals wins the home final next week, actually...

Yeah, I was watching the match for the first time this evening, and was amazed at how many times it happened in the first half.
It could be that Denis is trying to fine-tune a tactic, and is using the Wiz as match practice, but I'm sure that if it's not within team instructions, they'll get a massive spray from the man himself. The runner was out to Lance straight after it happened one of the times.

A couple were outside 50, but I know the one pj is probably talking about, Lance was on an angle but from 30-35 out should be taking those shots. Doesn't have enough confidence in himself kicking for goal sometimes Lance

I agree.

Not the nine pointer attempts, but the stupid indecisive giving off when well within range. It's infuriating!

Have a ping.

Baaaaaaaaaaah!

But why?

As said before, 50+ is fine, but when someone is 40 out, why not have a shot?

I like seeing a free flowing game as opposed to the stop start crap that occurs in other codes, but sometimes I think we overdo it a bit and as a result a turn over occurs.
If we play a decent team like a Port or Brissie, we will get killed every time when this happens.

I agree with PJ's comments - there were 2 in the 2nd Q that had nothing to do with 9 point goals. And Fev failed to kick to a free man inside 50 when he was by himself and then compounded the error by popping up a hospital ball when he was about to be manned up. But this is only the Wiz Cup after all, and the boys are still blowing out the cobwebs.

I agree with Dannyboy that many of the training drills focus on keeping the ball moving forward by handball from the marking player while he still is facing away from goal. But I'm sure that Pagan does not intend that to apply to key forwards who have marked in front of goal. He probably gave them a pat on the back for trying to bring other players into the game and allowing them to practise running shots at goal. But I am equally sure he told them not to do that again.

100% agree, I was pulling my hair out at times ( crikey moses it's only the wizz fizz cup I keep telling myself ). Out side 50 is fine but from 25 metres out straight in front is ridiculous.
