Phew another year, another bun fight! And you know what, that's Carlton. Who here remembers the summer of '79 - and no not for that gorgeous red haired girl I met at Ocean grove... but for the fight that erupted in the backrooms of Carlton and saw the departure of Jezza and the loss of a flag in 80?
I remember the kicked in the guts feeling I carried around with me until about march 81. That was a great side wasted because egos clashed like elk testing their antlers.
But that's the Carlton way. We do not do things half-heartedly. We are a passionate, proud lot full of visionaries and mercenaries - it's a dangerous, volatile culture but it does breed success.
I remember the smile of '81 when the cup was raised aloft. I remember screaming madly with my brothers 'cos for a moment in time there we thought all was lost. Harris fell, Jezza was gone and Perc coaching a group to nowheresville. Then, then like the great club we are we turned it all around for back to back.
We have to accept the madness that grips us from time to time; out of madness genius strides to cast greatness upon the canvas of our lives
So another bunfight, this time by supporters but Carlton people just the same, and like all Carlton people we carry the same jaguar spots, we don't muck around, we go for jugulars and other vulnerable spots.
And when the dust settles and the dead are carted off like extras from an Epic threatre movie we move forward, our eyes back upon the goal. We forget the battle and set outselves higher goals, more challenges, we set out to test that we are the best. Always we strive for that single purpose.
That's what being Carlton is. It is not a club or a collective, it's a Darwinian example of the fittest overcoming the rest. Sure it engenders pain and regret but also porch-memories where we sit and stare backwards into the jewels Carlton memories gather for us.
We are The Blues, we know how to fight and we accept the cost because we are passionate about this club. So now the fight has finished and we stand again in a clear navy blue sky awaiting again for that glorious moment when the boys run out onto the park.

Go Talking Carlton. Go CSC and Go all of us, for even after the battle we are all still bluebaggers through and through even (dare I say it) even Jack and in this moment of peace pipes and generous offerings I say as Bluebaggers lets let it all go and just watch this season and remember it is as the year the boys showed the world they are rerady to play - or as synbad would have it the year Eddie Betts came to play for us. Bring on the Doggies!

This type of slight is alien in the more cultured part of the world - Walsh. Its up there with mad dogs, Englishmen and the midday sun!
