We still have $1472 in the kitty. We're spending around AU$120/month on hosting and the SSL certificate cost bit extra as well (and still needs sorting).
Been out of circulation... Apologies for missing this. Will get onto it asap

Unfortunately this site has become almost unusable the last few days, often taking a minute for each link to respond. The stats at the bottom of the page just now said there were 3 registered users and 1100 guests currently on the site. It also says there were over 2600 guest users logged in at 4.30am. Surely the site performance is due to this proliferation of assumed bots.

Are there any settings available to make the site more secure and responsive, like a limit on guest logins? Should guests even be allowed to get past the main menu?

I'm happy to contribute to any additional software/ cloud costs, just worried we're going to have a diminished community if reading and responding to threads becomes too arduous (as if the club wasn't doing enough! ).

I had the server bounced yesterday and it was good for a short time but it's turned to shit now. Unfortunately the server software is outdated due to the site being outdated. I'll have a chat to the mods about this.

Any update on this? Site is unusable much of the time for me 1-2 minutes per link or post "preview" or "submit" and half the time the event fails and just returns a server link broken message.

Why can't guest users be limited to 10 and kicked off every few minutes with IP blocking for repeat offenders or something?

Would money help?

Hi All,

Back in April 2023 we put the call out for contributions for web hosting and you guys were awesome in your response.

Unfortunately funding ran out in July and Camel and I have funded the last two months. As of right now, we still need approximately $100 per month to keep the lights on. I know times are tough but if you can manage a contribution of any size to assist in hosting this site it would be greatly appreciated.

Bank details are as follows:

BSB: 923-100
ACC: 315 550 594
NAME: Liam Camilleri

If you choose to leave your username in the reference field, Camel or I will add you to a 2024 TC Sponsorship Group.

Update:

Things are slowly progressing with regards to moving the website to a cheaper host. As you may recall, this site is running on some very old software, software we have to update before we can move. As the software is really old its proven to be a bit of a task. Luckily Headplant has been chipping away at the updates in the background with an expectation that we should be able to fully updated by about November of this year. Thanks Headplant.

We've also discovered some other issues with the site, things that have affected our emails and also Google ad revenue. We are working through those issues and hope to see a little bit of a spike in funds which unfortunately have dropped from over $200 per month at its peak, down to about $8 per month.

Thanks for taking the time to read.

Following on from chucky's post above, which was made in September last year…

I renewed the domain today, which takes us through until Feb 2028.

We have a shade over $300 in the kitty and at current conversion rates hosting is costing us around AU$130/month.

I can't give you an update on server or site upgrades, we'll need some feedback from chucky and Heady for that.

Anyway, we've got another couple of months of hosting in the kitty and will need some contributions soon to keep the lights on.

(Thanks everyone for another year of keeping this site ticking along.)

Both the quality of my posts, & my actual donation

If we can get Lachie O'Brien taken off the TC banner, I'll cough up some more.

Yes, indeed, that is part of the problem (upgrading the site).
