Welcome to Carlton Cody. That's probably the best news of the year so far.

Sure is. With the crap year we have had so far wouldn't have been surprised if he chose Richmond. He has made his decision now so the pressure is off him.

Blake Acres has missed out for @CarltonFC again this week. He is being rest from the VFL too. A fourth club not out of the question with teams keeping an eye on him. Contracted for two more years.

Will resting him from the VFL fix his shoulders?

NO.

He needs a lot of work and a lot of strength and conditioning from now till 2026 Round 1.

I'm glad he mentioned Acres has suitors and a Trade is a possibility.
In 2026 I expect he will be part of the increase in depth at Carlton.

Cody Cody, hey boy, that's the way to go.

Cody Cody, hey boy, that's the way to go.

Cody Cody, hey boy, that's the way to go.

Its good to put the rumours he favours the Tigers to bed.
I wonder where that cane from.
Obviously gave Cody and Tex the shits to nominate us 18 months earlier than he had to.

Unfortunately they already have and we will likely be paying market draft value for Cody.
It appears there is not a lot of advantage to be gained in having father/sons anymore, except for the marketing and sentimental value it can add.

True, but if they change the rules, for the worse, for Carlton, we can argue we played within the rules before the changes and Cody nominated us within the "old" framework.

I think the AFL has already done the damage for us and Cody.

AFL have fkd up the Draft big time with the thoughless introduction of NGA picks (Jammarra, Quaynor  ) to further dilute the purpose of the draft to give the bottom team the chance to rebuild from access to pick 1, and so on, unless the bottom team selects a FS called at No 1, (but matched by the Premier, effectively gifting the Premier with pick 1 player) then that's followed by second choice with pick 1 which happens to be a GCS Academy kid,(but matched by GCS effectively gifting the runner up pick 2), then next selection with same pick No 1, the bottom hasn't lost, and used to selecting an NGA player (matched by 3rd placed Geelong, effectively gifting 3rd placed team pick 3), then the bottom team keeps selecting best available.

From what we have seen recently, GCS had 3 Academy kids selected in the Top 10 player in the Draft, Brizzy had a Top 1 or 2 player, every team has at least one NGA, and 4 teams have Academies.

WTF

If I thought it was possible to replace either of Motlop and Binns with a player, I would. No question.

If I’m Vossy, I think I can turn Binns into a pressure forward & with so many poor kicks in the squad, I’m hanging on to Motlop.

Magpies emerge as suitor for Jack Silvagni with Blue’s future still unclear

Jack Silvagni has been a rare bright spark for the Blues in 2025, but with his future still uncertain, one of Carlton’s main rivals is plotting to steal the favourite son from Ikon Park.

As much as we love Jack the fact is that he is injury prone and turns 28 later this year.
Pick #25 compo would be very handy as it would probably allow us to get Dean without having to use the DeKoning compo pick.
I would rather he stay, however our premiership window is closed IMO and we probably should focus on rebuilding.

I would hope that with Dean and Walker on the way, we'd use the TDK pick on an established player in that 23-26 age range we're lacking in. Would we have any issues getting Dean if we've already traded out our first?

I think trading SOS would be a huge mistake. Our defence is miles better with him in it. HOF and Dean are the future but there's no need to rush it. You could even argue in a roundabout way that SOS's injury frequency gives those kids just the right amount of exposure.

Also, I know romance in football is dead, but the idea of a Silvagni in a barcode jumper makes me sick.

For those who watch the rezzies more than I do, is Ethan Phillips worth a spot if SOS does the unthinkable?

I guess this is the million dollar question - it all depends on how early a bid is placed.
In previous years it wouldn't have been a problem, however with the new points system we could miss out on Dean if we trade away our TDK compo pick.
We could go into points deficit however this might jeopardise our chances of obtaining Cody next year.
