the davis article was excellent...

i imagine cfc to sack voss, hire new coach and boom! we are suddenly contenders again - you know, the same way we did with malthouse, pagan and every other mofo who's walked thru our doors since 1999.

the same way they replaced russell with riley and expected us to have no injuries this year and run with a list topped up on rookies and clueless kids as our depth.

carlton don't ask any questions or do anything with any depth or meaning. it's sakc someone, replace with someone else, count flags.

we are the dumbest, most arrogant club in the comp. living off last century's success like we are somehow still relevant now. when in actuality we could fold tomorrow or relocate to tasmania and no one would really give a damn.

end my pain? sure, why not.

I have heard Phil Davis refer to two opposing teams as "versing" each other

Primary school kids say that

I think the big question is what is it at Carlton that is so ingrained in our culture that we are in in perpetual failure. We bring in blokes from successful organisations like Brian Cook who have overseen massively successful eras yet they don't seem to be able to change the Carlton culture.

Will Graeme Wright be any different? I just wish someone could come in and pinpoint it and fix it. I fear it never happens

it's the curse from that indigenous mob, they placed on elliot.

we need to send a well endowed supporter to the tribe and offer him up as a sacrifice. to make amends.

i nominate bondi. or maybe bluehammer ... he sounds like he might swing an actual hammer, and fit the requirements here quite nicely.

I legitimately think it's the curse. We've tried nearly everything else.

I'm also eating a bowl of cereal for lunch at 2.40pm so I'm probably not best placed to advise.

If it’s “beereal” you may have a problem.

Didn't we discuss this & the two women who placed the curse have since passed away?

And also their family are Essendon* supporters so good luck

Sacrifice?

Mate, they would want to party with me. Ive got a great mate, whose an elder of the biggest nation in Australia. He's a hevy hitting barrister. Doesn't look indigenous much, but with him by my side they wont eat me, and I'll go there with plenty to bribe them with....some in a brown paper bag. The like bags don't they?

When Eddie McGuire took over the Collingwood presidency the very first thing he said was "the mates rates days are over". One of the major reasons we are where we are at is the appointment of Stephen Silvagni as List Manager. Where did he have results prior ? Far too many failures with his selections at GWS.

Do any of you recall the Ian Collins challenge ticket for the board in 2002 ... Silvagni was on that ticket ... the members voted them in ... Silvagni didn't last one year. Do you really want him back ... I was astounded that we got him back. I have been elected on many committees and yes I too wanted to quit before my tenure, but YOU OWE IT TO THE PEOPLE THAT BACKED YOU.

I have this doubt that he can obtain and maintain the right people to want to work with him.

Nick Austin ... son of Curly ... would he have ever been in any AFL role if he wasn't the son of Rod Austin. I don't know ??? But what I do know is people like him get a massive head start in this industry compared to others and as a result their appointments can be flawed.

I can't really compare him to Silvagni as he hasn't had the vast amount of early picks that the latter had.

What I don't like about him is he doesn't value kicking as his major priority and until he runs with a policy of "can't kick we don't pick" then we are going nowhere. The Geelong teams of 2007, 2009 and 2011 were not quick but boy could they sure kick. Great kicking is the best disguise for a lack of pace.

And the other thing ... which we have little control over is LUCK. No other club comes close to our injury toll over the last 4 years. I have never seen anything like it and I am in my 60's.

He's part of the problem IMO.

Another example of our club throwing $$ at a short term fix / solution. Did the board truly think Cook was prepared to roll his sleeves up, work his arse off for 5+ years to turn our club around?

No, of course they didn't. They went chips in on near retired ex gun CEO. We threw huge $$ at Strength & Condition coach who's been abysmal failure. And threw huge $$ at top 6 players who are under-performing in an epic way.

Sorry but you couldn't be more wrong on Cook if you tried.
Cook is working his arse off behind the scenes to create a more stable and unified club. The problem at Carlton is and always has been the beavy of heavy hitters with cash that are wanting heads to roll.
Fact is he is trying to stabilise the whole joint from top to bottom.
At this stage that is all I'll say on Cook coz there's plenty going on behind the scenes that he is working towards.

Thanks for that Deano . Anyone who says otherwise just doesn't know the bloke or the calibre of the man .

Bump.... Cook will be departing when our Club will be at near all-time low. It pains me to say that his CEO tenure at Carlton has been a failure. He was planning to retire when he left Geelong.
