From the AFL website.

Meanwhile, Sydney expects that it won't know whether defender Nick Blakey suffered a concussion in a contentious incident involving Essendon* captain Zach Merrett until Sunday morning.

23 scoring shots to 16. Sydney kicked themselves out of it. Essendon* aren't great but don't underestimate the Swans. 16 more inside 50's, 3.5 to 0.1 in the last quarter. They were all over the Bombers but couldn't convert.

imo it's a nightmare game for us. the exact kind of game that we've historically lost.

swans down and out, but on their home deck, where we apparently forget how to play football - and on a friday night.

Massive game, win it & we square it at 5-5

I've got a good feeling about it

Swines have a ton of injuries to key players which means we’re pretty much guaranteed to lose badly

Good opportunity for Ben to get a game this week. I suspect we’ll pick the extra tall again, so it’ll be a balancing act to get enough run into the side with Cripps, Hewett & Lord in the guts… I think it’s doable.

For the sake of argument, let’s assume that all of Acres, McGovern & Cowan are out. Cincotta is due for return, but probably comes through the reserves.

Just my opinion, but I think Boyd has got a maturity problem. Not so much as a person, but as a professional athlete. When I watch him in the twos, he doesn’t strike me as someone who’s trying to get into the ones. He’s turned down the degree of difficulty with his kicking and it’s gone from wow to meh. He’s reduced himself to just another back pocket that’s tethered to the D50 because he can’t run good.

Carroll will come in & I think we’ll go with six at the back. Ollie & Saad to round out the group. Temptation will be to play Cerra behind the ball, but hopefully the smaller field will give them confidence to avoid that.

As prolific as Docherty was against Sandringham, he doesn’t get involved in the air & they tend to run past him on the ground. I think he’ll be the sub and come on as a 7th/spare to let Cerra off the chain (if temptation wins out) & shorten the ground for the wings.

B: Saad Weitering Silvagni
HB: O.Hollands Haynes Carroll
C: Walsh Cripps Binns
R: De Koning Hewett Cerra
HF: E.Hollands McKay White
F: Durdin Curnow Young
I: Motlop Evans Lord B.Camporeale
S: Docherty

OUT: Acres, McGovern, Cowan
IN: Carroll, Ben Camporeale, Lord
Sub: Docherty

I'm expecting McGovern to be fine if nothing is broken.

Our last away trip to an unhappy hunting ground ended in embarrassment just days ago.

We get a do over now. Let’s see what lessons we’ve learnt.

I never underestimate Sydney. But they are gettable. Hugely gettable.

Bring “us” and we should win this.

That has to be our mindset.

lets see the injury report, but i'm more worried about about silvagni and his groin, than mcgovern. mcgovern is made of custard and at the first signs of a bruise, curdles his into the back of an ambulance.

Sam Wicks has been the revelation this year at the Swans.

He was the pressure small forward prior tothis year. He had pace to burn and was a success at his role, when selected, but a fit Papley and Parker filled the 2 small forward roles ahead of Wicks. They are a bit different to us where we play 5 small forwards, they play 2; Cleary and Campbell (whilst Papley is out). They have 2 KPs and 2 medium sized players who can mark, are quick and can kick long goals or tag: Hayward, Jordan.

This year, Wicks has been playing backline minding the small forwards. He has the pace to keep up with the sopeedy smalls. He's also the go to man to run the ball out of defence.

That gives us a good measuring stick when looking for the profile of a small forward. Could you imagine Motlop having the speed to keep up with to pressure a small forward, the run it out of defence? Goes to show what our small forwards (apart from Durdin and Williams) don't have for the role: speed.

Stop Wicks and Blakey running the ball out and they will be playing on our terms: pressure and contest, and we are better at them at that game this year.

Blues by 24 points.

Ive read about Silvagni twice here on TC. Where does that come from? I don't think SOS will miss. I thought he copped a corky just above his knee. Did I miss something? Hope not.

Our tall defenders will demolish their tall forwards in the air. They will hope to bring ball to ground. We have too much class in the air whether Gov plays or not.

Open day training yesterday.

Good to see Newman training and smashing into bags twisting and turning and lkicking. He will be back sooner than we thought.

Fantasia out there…mainly running. Non contact drills.

SOS Gov Acres Hewett Williams out there on light duties. Williams due back next week earliest.

I’m hoping first 4 are right to play. Fingers crossed.

No Cowan.

Feel like ins will be Carroll and Docherty for Cowan and Acres. They’ll want Doc’s experience out there without acres.
