It all happened so quietly, we just meekly accepted it. Now it's hard to believe there was a time you'd go out and buy your word processing or accounting software in a box and it'd be yours to own, and would work for years without needing constant upgrades, and wouldn't be vulnerable to hacking. Great world we made for ourselves!

Xero does what I need. It's just tripled in price from what was when I first subscribed a few years ago.

Under the previous pricing I needed to be on a package above the minimum for a couple of features (eg manual create and editing of invoices). Under the new prices those features are in the basic plan so I've been able to drop down to that.

I'd be interested to know how QuickBooks would compare but suspect my accountant will say she does everything on Xero and my accounting fees will be higher if I move off Xero

I'll take a look at which tier I'm on.
Accountants love Xero because it means they don't have to do as much work for their money :P

Considering Carlton's new sponsor Quickbooks over my current accounting software Xero which seems to have a price hike every few months.

Anyone have any experience with Quickbooks online?
My needs are super simple, sole trader with no employees.

I roadtested Quickbooks and MYOB Accounting (now Accountright) back in 2002.

You had to buy a $10 CD-ROM from Officeworks that would work for a month.

The MYOB one was pretty straightforward.

The Quickbooks one wouldn’t load.

I rang their help desk.

“Yeah that happens quite a bit. Just go buy another one and see if that works.”

Choice made.

CD-ROM?

You still have a physical media drive in your computer?
