Again no mention of S Durdin, is he still in our list?

He was sent out to meet the kids pre game on the weekend.

So he exists

I grabbed a coffee in the 1864 Cafe yesterday where I noticed him sitting alone having a bite to eat, so I can confirm he too exists.

With Cunners and Marchbank I really think it's time to cut them loose. They are talented footballers, and I'm sure they are lovely people, but they rarely get on the park. We aren't a benevolent society for injury prone footballers. Tough job to have to tell players it's over, I've always been a fan of Marchy too, but enough is enough. Martin and McGovern should be on thin ice too, jeeze, the millions we've paid those two for disappointing return.

McGovern played almost every game last season it think. I am pretty sure the penny has dropped for him so I wouldn’t include him with the others.
With Martin, Marchbank and Cunners, no point chopping them if there isn’t anybody better available. We might have ended up with another couple of picks in the 60s who aren’t going to add anything to our list.
Marchbank, Cunningham and Martin were instrumental in our run to the prelim last year.
I get the frustration, but cutting them from the list isn’t going to improve our position on the field. We need them until others can step up and take over their positions.

hmmm. depending on contract and cap space letting them go could benefit us? free up some cap and let us chase some players at season end.

all of which may mean little, considering they'll get flogged at training and no one in the rehab rooms knows how to put body's back back together.

Fair point although I wouldn’t be recontracting them for top dollar.
Trouble is, I could see Martin and McGovern being instrumental in winning a GF (if we/they can get there).
So what is a player worth who plays half-2/3 of a season but delivers at the pointy end?? #clarkekeating

Agree with most of what you wrote 17th. I almost didn't mention McGovern, as he had a pretty good year in 2023, but one swallow doesn't make a summer, and here we go again. The other three? Yeah, we need them if they're getting on the park, but they aren't very often.

My thinking on this is much the same as Braithy.

Letting all of them go would be silly. Retaining all of them puts a strain on squad resources. Gotta find a balance. Ideally you'd look at that group of four and decide which two are least likely to contribute and/or are easiest to cover for. Glad it's not my job to make that call.

VFL game, they just announced that both Weiters and Williams cleared of any damage (whatever that means and fingers crossed).
Better than serious damage I guess

Go Blues

Pretty shit news on Fog... "return to play to be assessed in round 11", does that mean we're hoping to have him back around that time or that we won't even be able to assess the damage until then?

At least Williams doesn't have a LTI.

He's listed as 4-6. I'd say the're expecting to be ready around round 11, but determine the return date until then.

One thing about Russell and his team, they tend to under-promise and over-deliver. The listed return time is usally conservative

Marchbank has the same wording but for Rd 9 which is a surprise. I guess there's still plenty of time for him to trip over his shoelace.

He’s got a fractured wrist. I guess that’s their way of saying that the X-ray will say when it’s fixed & we’ll sign him off after that.

So Wilson and Akuei back into the VFL team this weekend.

Cuningham and Cerra available the week after that.

Williams and Weitering test for this week. I guess worst case we’ll see Cincotta and Lemmey play afl this weekend.
