He is probably our best centre bounce ruckman, and he is one of the best contested marks in the league. Booming kick when he actually connects and an excellent work rate for someone of his stature.
You keep looking at him as a forward, I've only ever seen him that way contingent on his goal kicking, which is currently way ward again. Without the focus on the pressure of a set shot, his field kicking has always been fine.
If we had a secondary ruckman of at least the quality of Hampson, I'd be looking at it differently, but we really don't. The drawbacks on all the other options aside from Kreuzer are shitful, and the game has changed. Casboult offers a skillset that works well in light of said change.
Again u are entitled to your opinion, but u seriously lost me when u said he has an excellent work rate.
Yes I do view him as as forward, because last time I looked that's where he has played. In fact 95% of his career that is where he has played and I see a player that is lazy, with low work rate, low fitness, can't kick, doesn't lead, doesn't pressure or chase, and is lost as to where he needs to be. Opposition teams exploit us cos of this. Did I add he doesn't kick goals.
As a ruckman, I see a player who doesn't have the fitness base or foot smarts to play the position.
And we have capuano as his mentor...
No chance of making it!
But would be good if he could make it!
Get him away from his deflating role in our forward lobe..
And help out in another deficiency around the ground.
Oh I'm dreaming!
One of those players we keep around hoping.
One of those players you don't see at other clubs as you begin raising your sights following clubs further up the ladder
It's simple really.
The midfield are in an arm wrestle fighting hard for an inside 50.
In it goes and casboult fluffs it over and over
This is disheartening and deflating.
He is the great deflator! You can't afford these types in our situation.
True, but then he can get the ball, others we would try up there wouldn't even do that.
I don't think anyone at the club thinks he is the answer, but the current match committee haven't got much of a hand to play with. If we traded Casboult what would we get? 3rd rounder maybe?
IMO I think Casboult needs to be 2nd ruck/forward, his main value is taking marks around the ground, but then again who do we put deep forward? Walker and Everett are injured, Jones is worse than Casboult, and doesn't seem like Foster has shown much in the VFL. McKay would obviously be getting a look in if he wasn't injured.
When you trade out Hendo, Waite, Betts, Garlett, Menzel and Yarran over 3 seasons you can't be shocked when you suddenly have zero forward line. Even a goalkicking mid in Bell has been lost.
I do realise many of those trade outs will be beneficial (not Betts or Waite) but the reality is we have close to the worst forward line of any AFL team I have seen. I would put good money on us not scoring 100 all year.
