For me, its between Bruce Doull, Big Nick and Jezza

I remember in the '81 GF in the first couple of minutes in the game Bruce dropped the ball and some Filth supporter yelled out "get off you're too old". From that point on he never made a mistake for the rest of the game and just kept sending us back into attack time and time again - and he could do it against talls and shorts. He was pretty close to perfection.

As far as Big Nick was concerned, apart from his obvious rucking prowess, the opposition would literally melt when he was on the field. He never had to do much more than stare at an opponent - he created real fear and all his teammates just walked taller when he was around - and played that way.

Jezza was just a freak who could do anything on the football field.

When Jezza went to St. Kilda in 1980, Bruce Doull played on him when Carlton played St. Kilda and gave him an absolute towelling. Granted Jezza was well past his best - but Jezza was moved to acknowledge that he appreciated Doull's prowess to a far greater degree by having to play on him rather than just watching him play.

My top 3 is
1. Jezza - freakish skills and an inspiration to those that played with him
2. Big Nick - a great leader and footy brain
3. Doull - amazing athlete and competitor - hardly ever beaten.

All 3 are absolute champions and members of the AFL Team of the Century.

If I go on further I would add
4. Johnno - always brilliant in the big games and should have won the Norm Smith in 82
5. SOS - another AFL team of the Century member

Next group includes Bradley, Kernahan, Fitzpatrick, Southby & Ashman

Thats great....I'm sure Bruce would have been humbled on hearing that.

Does anyone have a story about a day Demitriou got towelled up playing against Carlton? Lets face it there must be heaps he was pretty average. Maybe a time he was carted off ona stretcher like the piece of garbage he is.

AGRO deserves this for sharing his memory of a day two legends played on each other...and I'd love to hear it too.

We've had many many champions..... but Stephen Silvagni was the heart and soul of the Carlton Football Club. No other player sacrificed themselves like the great number 1 .

The term Champion is used far too much.
However, the aforementioned names [bar one that keeps popping up] are all true champions of the game.
I'm not sure about judging players from different eras. As far as I'm concerned those guys were/are legends of The Navy Blue and they are part of the reason every other club is so very jealous of our team.
I am pleased to see that the spirit they displayed week in week out is being revived in our club.
Go Blues.
Regards Pedro.
