Yes I agree with you on that but you also need some sort of theme that the fans can latch onto . If you look at the teams that are attracting numbers they have something we don't.
Hawthorn has winning and Tassie
Collingwood has created this army theme and the chant no to dissimilar to the WSW people join up for the atmosphere
Richmond has always put itself in a position where the next year is going to be their year despite it never being.
Fans join on the off chance that they could witness a miracle.
Essendon* has created its an us verses them mentality which appears to be working.
The WA and SA sides it's always going to be about beating the Vics and each other.
The Swans it is the big names the recruit and the trendiness they try to appeal to.

Carltons theme used to be we win.
We don't do that anymore so someone needs to develop a theme that will bring fans in regardless of the results

Here's a tip. In round 2 come to Perth and stand outside the gate and approach any person in navy blue and ask them to sign up. I attended most matches involving the blues here and ive never even seen a membership person. Seriously there are hundreds of blues people here that are left out.

Yes I know there is a van there selling blues gear. But selling a membership needs more effort than selling a cap.
