I think I best 22 will come down to how Malthouse wants us to play the game. Majority of scoring comes from forcing a turnover.
We have to know what plan MM has in mind for forcing the turnover to know what sort of 22 to pick. Particularly when discussing how many talls to have in the forward line.
I think the forward press is only good in bursts and even then has to be times correctly. Best used with slower entries so we have players around the ball all the way forward. That was the problem with our team last year with players like garlett wanting to get it moving a way that left us vulnerable on the rebound due to our press not getting a chance to get set up.
Probably why we look better with a team of plodder types late last season.

Personally I would be focussing on forcing the turnover further back down the ground. Between halfway and CHB. Get numbers in that area in a press. The rebound will be more effective that way with space in front . Similar to the way the swans and hawks play. To play this way and make top 4 would require the team to be lethal once they get possession from the turn over and stingy when pressing around CHB to not allow any entry on opposition terms.

That is where we have to get better as we have a few weak links when it comes to being lethal with the ball and stingy in our defence.

I like all the teams picked. Messing around with the number of talls selected until we find out what works best. A lot of the names are interchangeable if we get our system right.

He's no walk-up start. His 2014 season was poor. He offers great disposal, but also offers a small defender with the turning circle of the titanic and a lack of footy smarts, which isn't just running to the right spots, it's knowing how to use your body in a 1 on 1 contest, something Tuohy consistently struggled with last season.

He's aided by the fact that Walker might move forward and Simpson, Docherty and to a lesser extent Buckley will rotate through the midfield. So we have a need for a stay at home small defender, but he's gonna have to lift substantially if he doesn't want to get overtaken by Sheehan or have a Curnow or Carrazzo squeezed out of the middle and take his small defender role.

Forget season 2014. It will be an injury free pre-season start for nearly our whole club at this point. That alone will see significant improvement in players at all levels.

Next season, if players get a full preseason could be full of surprises.

Sounds promising so far. Lets hope we get to rd 1 with a full and fit list.

2E will play rd one barring injury, mark it down.

I have him on the bench of my best 22. He has value, but he needs to improve next season if he wants to be guaranteed a game each week. A lack of depth is about all that saved him from being dropped in the first 2 months of the 2014 season.

I prefer what I saw of Sheehan...if he improves I'd suggest Touhy may be in trouble unless he can go into the midfield but then he has to push someone out...who? Its a bit like Teague all those years ago - as the side gets better those with weaknesses that are not improved get left behind. Touhy has done remarkably well but his body work is still not great. If he improves that area and gets his zing back fine, if not, I think he's a link I'd like to see replaced because it would show we are getting better.

No Carrazzo? Don't think he can get back to his best or sufficiently near it? I'd have him in there somewhere.

Maybe he gets the Ryan Okeefe treatment next year

If Sheehan steps up as some expect ( I don't) and Tuohy regains his 2012 form....and Whiley performs like his highlights reel in the seniors we look like we have plenty of pace to burn with the release of Yarran & Tex from the back line with Judd, Murphy, Thomas, Buckley and Docherty.

Our big boys are mobile too with the addition of Kreuzer Jaksch & Jones.

Fingers crossed we have a healthy list 2015 after a super summer on the track.

Go Blues

Like this time of year... Looking at Rexy and Jimmae's teams I feel pretty confident that we will improve (as i always do before we actually play anyone) Interesting that Rexy left out Bell. I thought he was making good progress.
I have not been able to see many games but the consensus appears to be that Sheehan is a better bet than White and maybe even 2E. Can you let me know why you think this (those that do)...
I think I prefer Jimmae's team than Rexy's as I like the fact that Yarran and Thomas are closer to goals. With Rexy's team we have lots of mid tall leading types but not sure if we have that pace to get back to the crumb or the spark around goals unless Yazz moves up. Is Buckley good/quick/smart enough to play that kind of role forward?
As long as I just look at us and don't actually compare individuals with those at other clubs - it looks good!. Maybe I should log off until next October while I am happy...

Looking at that team, it looks bottom 4..

It could be the worst half back line we have had in decades. I know we like our guys but in reality that team is not up to standard, not until we get 3 or 4 more young guns into the team. Might take a few years.

Am I the only one that sees this?

No agree but bottom 6 for me. This draft will be one of the better ones and we went the other way.
