Saddens me to see McInnes on that list.

This is the cleanout we had to have.

Add Lucas and Ellard to that list and replace them with young runners from the draft.

Wonder how this reflects the remaining guys?

4 spots on the list available.

Out of contract:
Lucas
Robinson
Waite
Garlett
Casboult
Ellard

I assume on the basis of today's announcement that Wood and Johnson are our retained second year rookies for 2015, and that there are no requirements at this stage to move on Sheahan or Byrne.

Wonder what the scenario is with Lucas? No point keeping him to trade him to a club of his choice in Perth ( remember mention on here from Lucas saying he'd be back in Perth next year), given he can just go there directly as a free agent? Are we waiting on the Eagles and Dockers' respective seasons to finish before anything is decided (remember Eagles' WAFL team still in contention) there?

Get the feeling it's one of Casboult or Waite staying. Definitely not both.

Think Lucas stays on the basis of Garlett's departure. Robinson gets no interest and one last chance on a huge coin reduction.

So, probably with Higgins deal going ahead (Casboult for Higgins and Higgins compo pick), Waite stays.

5 picks in the draft and Higgins - picks 7, 30, 32, 51, 71 or PSD.

Agree that only one of casboult/waite will be retained. Given the choice it would be Casboult ahead of waite for mine (age profile) - barring something drastic, casboult would still have reasonable trade value next year

Already gone are bootsma, duigan, waite, mcinness, temay = 4 picks (assuming higgins comes across)

Of the others on your list, I'd retain lucas (or trade for equiv player/age profile). 50:50 on robinson but lean towards a trade if we can get value (bell/cripps take his spot in the 22 next year). Also 50:50 on ellard - depth player but injuries/wrong age profile/limited upside would mean that I'd look for someone younger to take his spot on the list. Would prefer to retain garlett but sounds as if he is gone.

Rhino, don't we need to replace Bootsma, Scotland and Duigan as well? Not sure your maths is on point.

To Freo for 12 brand-new Sherrins and a slightly used exercise bike.

Bootsma, Duigan, Temay and McInnes from senior list. Scotland, Cachia and Reynolds from rookie list.
Add Garlett and one of Waite or Casboult

= Higgins and 5 picks.

If casboult wants too much piss him off as well!!

With McInnes gone this year and McCarthy last year there goes the two players we got for Sam Jacobs. When do we ever win on deals.

We need proven AFL players first and foremost. If they're mids or KPPs that would be ideal, but not essential.
Higgins is a senior player with excellent foot skills and leadership.
If he's over the injury problems he's had and doesn't cost us too much in the way of coin then it's a no brainer to pick him up.

What is our plan? What is the state of the list? When are we realistically planning to be in a gf? I can't imagine it will be while Higgins is playing. We need to understand that we are a fair way from a flag and will be further away in a few years when Judd, simmo and a few more are gone or on their last legs. The players who are going to be guns in 5 years are in the draft. Higgins was dropped by the dogs, and where did they finish? What is he going to add? We have to stop with short term fixes to get us a few spots higher on the ladder but still miles from a flag. When we are close to a flag list, then top it up.
