..interesting.. ..cos i was here when Malty had his team up in top 4 year after year, and then top 2, back to back grand finals, and a flag.. ..i saw with my own eyes [like plenty of others] how fit their team has been.. ..and through all that time, extreme fitness and work-rate is what held his gameplan together.. ..i don't think the fitness of the pies has ever been questioned.. ..perhaps under Bucks, some players [along with learning new gameplan] were not working hard enough.. ..and while it might look like a drop in fitness, perhaps it's also a drop in morale and so what we saw as great work and fitness under MM, is less so under Bucks.. ..what we do know, is the fitness regime didn't change much, so i think a drop off in effort is more to blame than any drop off in fitness, or drop off in staff's ability to get that fitness into the squad..

This would match with Buckley's comments on poor culture and the state of the list, all [REDACTED] when he took over apparently.

The Pies must have been close to folding when Bucks took over, I heard they were looking at parachuting in Ron Barassi and Richard Colless and a cash bail-out from the AFL of $10mil had been organised.

Mick says we're fit. The on field evidence suggests otherwise. So if we are physically fit we must be mentally shot. Again.

If you keep kicking it straight back to the opposition,
then you have to spend all your time chasing them around.

Can't do that all game, every game.

We need to keep possession

I'm not sure we're getting value for money.

Just watched the game again and we fought right to the end.

There's a big diffreence between fit and slow.

Brock is too slow for AFL, but has endurance. You need both at this level.
Carrazzo is slow and moves the ball slow too. Ditto above.
Hate to say but even Tuohy looks too slow for this level atm...as is Ellard, probably Graham, Cachia and even Curnow.

Of the abovementioned Curnow is special with his endurance and ability to close down and this year was able to get disposals and use them within his capability. Cant carry more than one of these types.

If Cripps is also on the slow side, he too seeens another special one with an extraordinary gift to extract and feed.

Swap 4 of the above for tougher and faster types and we have a different team and less focus on Buttifant.

We are fitter than we were 3 months ago and that's all.

It's why we play better at the little dome.
