Not going anywhere. Just my hunch.

Yes I do.

What's their age compared to Gibbs?

Yep. That's the difference. You move them on once their best is behind them. Gibbs is still in his prime and will be for 4 years. At that point you can move him on. Will still have currency too.

Well put.

They had to lose Ablett and everybody thought they would suffer but they did OK with the resultant picks.

No team is bigger than one or two players.

We get rid of Gibbs we lose a player getting 30 good quality touches and replace him with Docherty (for example) who will eventually get 30 good quality touches and replace Docherty, who is currently getting 20 touches with another player who can get 20 touches. Graham?

The player you pick up for Gibbs has time to develop. In reality he only has to replace Graham. It happens in every business. The top apple packer leaves and everybody moves up one position, leaving a small shortfall. In the end, the result is much the same.

It's list management.

That's the worst thing you can do when your near the bottom. The biggest issue we have is we very little to trade with and at the end of the year we are told we are moving on 10-12 players. If the majority of them are picks after about 40 we are going to struggle to get real talent into the club.

..psych, your idea has merit, if we go hard and don't stop at Gibbs.. ..otherwise it's Gibbs out, pick 8ish in.. ....and we slide further down the ladder, and 1 extra top ten pick in a single year, and then back to normal drafting opportunity doesn't move us further at all in my opinion.. ..you either go very hard at the draft over a short span of time, or you hold on to what talent you have in prime age..

That article reminds me of something I heard someone say at the pub the other night.

So pleased we are signing Gibbsy up.

Quality we can build a team around.

There is a core group now who can lead us to glory within the next 5 years.

Because we are going to snag a few of the GC and GWS players just like other teams will.

I'm living in hope....but feel sure that there's something like that brewing in the background.

I agree with you Bondi. It just makes sense. There has to be a massive reason for Gibbs signing for practically the dollars he is on now, long term - when this in reality should be his biggest contract of his career. He must be pretty damn impressed by our presentation.

Maybe it was a simple case of Gibb's management stalled negotiations and used the speculation for outside offers? When offers for Gibbs services came up short, they instructed their client it was time to sign?
