CRETYLUS DELIVERS HIS SERMON

I thought you said that the coach doesnt matter - its all the Presidents fault - sticks ruined the club

You must be consistent Mr S.

Shifting blame from coaches that you like, or players that you like, or presidents that you like to those that you dont like, doesnt address the real causal problems at our club..

this isnt about being right or wrong...

Although I agree that a top to bottom review and clean out is needed - that includes players, staff and board members.

Its critical for your personal growth as a Sharman that you remain consistent Mr S. You must abandon your rhetoric r S.....

If Pagan is in charge it's, the players fault
If Ratten is in charge, it's Rattens fault.
If Malthouse is in charge, its Sticks's fault.

This approach of blame shifting really doesn't solve anything long term Mr S.
it's a club after all - one big team - everything needs to be heading towards a level of excellence.

My main complaints and attacks on the playing group have always been centered around effort, work rate, 1%ers and improvement in leadership skills and integrity out on the field...

These on field areas are non negotiable as far as I am concerned. if they are satisfied then i am happy to become a member of the club, irrespective of whether we make finals or our win/loss ratio etc.

And that's ok. Not being happy with just making elimination finals is a good policy and was the reason why Ratten was replaced. Look at Brad Scott, he gets five years at North because it "looks" as if he's heading in the right direction.

In my opinion, I am sick of the club's expectations that are out of whack with reality all for the sake of selling memberships. Be honest with your supporters. All we hear from the club is how this list is on the cusp of greatness when our onfield performances suggests otherwise. Our list management has been poor ... we overpay our good players relative to the rest of the competition (a lesson we didn't learn even after the salary cap penalties) ... and we have no room to move in adding to our list. In my estimation the play for Thomas and the departure of Betts effectively cancelled each other out at best (same age profile, weakened an already suspect forward structure to bolster a suspect midfield group) rather than enhanced our chances to build on last year's ninth place. The lack of forward thinking when it comes to our list management and recruiting is a major source of the current angst.

Can only be consistent if its a comparable parallel in history Cret.
Where we were under Pagan and Malthouse is not where we were under Ratts.
Ratts skimmed the cream from the milk.
But wasnt his fault... he was very ordinary ... he was allowed to spin our wheels by the Oligarchs above him... who it seems are happy to blame Hughes.
Funny that...!!!.. theyre moving pieces around below them... but theyre not looking at themselves

I'm dissatisfied watching Kochie now on 360 selling his club and thinking that we haven't got a spokesperson like that.

but within one preseason (the preseason where Mick couldn't be there for 2 weeks due to a book launch and tour) we went from a strong talented list under an incompetent rats to a piss weak list with poor leaders under the great Malthouse...

This cant happen in 6 months...

And remember Mr S, you found plenty of faults with the playing group under Pagan

So which is it Mr S?

Is it the club as a whole, the coach, the players?

Dr Strangelove has done so much for us already ... we need to move backwards before we can move forward. .

He has been a shining example of old fashioned coaching. You don't win one premiership in 18 years by sitting on your hands.

We lost our first Game
Its been a while since we developed our own champion
Sticks speaks like a moron
We have appointed a very good coach that we have loved to hate for many years.
Our Captain doesnt appear to be embracing the job
Our club is no longer an innovator we are just reactive.
Our messiah is on the downhill slope in his performance signalling his window is nearly shut
Our up and comers are still a few years away
We are no longer a financial powerhouse
We are not top 4 because we are not yet at the hawthorn Geelong Sydney mindset and
We wont be top 4 because the AFL have shoehorned GWS and GC into the top 4 ahead of us in the coming years
We have no excitement machines on our list Judd was our last

despite all that a great team can beat a team of champions. We have a coach that knows this and is working towards this. Perhaps that light we can see is not a train coming the other way.

I wouldn't have sacked Brittain but given him one more year, but Pagan was totally mislead by Elliott, he thought he was coming to a strong club and when he arrived we had no money, no players, no draft picks. He was past his use by date but he had nothing to work with and the performance in 2004, (while it cost us long term in higher picks) and the two preseason flags (meaningless as they may be) basically got us enough supporter revenue to survive. And since he was sacked I have never heard him publicly bag us, when he had much reason to. It was a hurried appointment in the Carlton style (not unlike the MM appointment) but I have some empathy and time for Pagan. He had nothing to work with and kept working without complaining. He might have been too tough and uncompromising but we are currently neither and haven't been for 15 years.
