Here’s a bit of perspective about the modern success of the Mighty Navy Blues.
I’m 46 years old. In my lifetime I’ve been privileged to have experienced eight Carlton premierships, five of which I can actually remember.
1968, 70, 72, 79, 81, 82, 87 & 95.
Born in 1967, seven of these premierships were won by the time I was 20 years old. A golden period in our rich history, no doubt.
In the last 26 years we’ve won one flag. One ……..
So whilst I’m contentedly thinking how successful we’ve been in my lifetime, the reality is that for well over half of my life we’ve won just the one premiership.
Wow …………..

Couldn't of summed it up any better and I feel exactly the same.
You and I are of the same age group. We grew up in an era where we were the best. We simply didn't tolerate mediocrity. It was about Premierships and nothing else. Not only that we backed it up.
It is frustrating and embarrassing to have been watching this club over the past 10-15 years. It will go down as the worst period in our great history. No flags, wooden spoons etc.
The Carlton of the past would never of tolerated the mistakes that have happened. You were good enough or you were out. Sticks, McKay, Hughes, Rogers, Coutts, Smorgon, Ratten wouldn't of got a look in let alone been able to stay in their roles for long.
I believe we are slowly on the way back but a lot more has to be done. I am happy with our coaching set up and we have a great facility. Communications and Marketing are on the improve.
The key for me is what will happen when Sticks stands down (hopefully) at the end of the year. We need a gutsy, smart business savvy person to take over. That won't be swayed by personality and will make the hard decisions and get the "BEST".
Only then can we get back to the Carlton of old.
