Quote:
CONTROVERSIAL footy commentator Mark Maclure admits he got it wrong when he compared Brownlow medallist Jobe Watson to disgraced drugs cheat Lance Armstrong.

Maclure linked the pair earlier this month after Watson revealed he took a drug he believed to be AOD-9604 – a substance since confirmed as banned under anti-doping rules.

“I probably did (get it wrong),” the former Carlton captain and 243-game star told Fox Footy’s Open Mike, which screens on Monday night at 9.30pm.

“But at the moment I thought he’d admitted to taking drugs. I understand that and I got it wrong.”

Maclure said he has not apologised to Jobe or father Tim Watson since the outburst.

“It doesn’t mean I’m heartless,” he said, adding he would rather address the Watsons in person.

Great interview. Oh to have some of that steely team orientated resolve in our playing group.

At the time, watching flag after flag, you just didn't realise how lucky we were that we had such a talented and dedicated group of players.

Agree on his comments about "enjoying" the game. Far too much seriousness throughout the game. I know that some of the best project teams I've worked on were ones where we worked insane hours, but where we also partied just as hard.

Great interview. The culture of the club in 70s / 80s he was describing is very much like current day Geelong and Sydney (with a bit lot more alcohol).

Not underrated by me Mickstar. An amazing football brain (Exhibit A: The tap on to Marcou in the 82 Grand Final to seal the game) and everything he did was for the team. Completely selfless on the football field.

Used to LOVE his battles with Billy Picken.

Agree, they used to punch the suitcase out of each other - it was great to watch how hard they played against each other
