We got smashed out of the middle

Unfortunately Kruezer's ruckwork hurts us. We need to play him forward as the no.2 man and get Warnock in the middle.
I love the guy but he's tap work is far from good. I still thinks he wants to rove to his ruck work. :screwy:

..hitout to adv was 28%.. ..his ruckwork is good, our midfield set-ups are shizen..

I don't particularly care what the % are. I know what I see and that is his ruck work is terrible.
As an amateur footballer our ruckman could see where we where before he competed for the ball. Surely Krooz has some idea where his midfielders are befor the ball is thrown up, so why does he continuously put the ball to his feet? Sorry I know what I see at every contest and the very reason he chases his own taps!

..then you must watch some games and not all games, cos if you did you'd know that his ruck work is not terrible.. ..talking in absolutes is bollocks.. ....especially when he's clearly not "terrible" in regards to his tapwork skill..

I watch all games and know what I'm talking about.
We obviously differ or have different expectations on ruckman, so I will get over it and move on.

Interesting comment from Mick in the post-match talking about the requirement to control the middle in modern footy:

Wonder if we can read anything into that regarding the likelihood, or not, of going after Tom Boyd.

Interesting that he brings the stats sheets in with him and doesn't go many weeks without referring to them.

Why interesting?

Mids are suppose to be on the move when receiving the tap and letting the ruck know were they are by using their voice (planning were the ball will bounce and what position you should be in isn't a plan).

We have a very peculiar centre bounce set up. Two of our players were facing Kruezer at centre bounces ... so if Kruezer does tap to them they have their backs to the goal and therefore no clear run to kick the ball ... therefore we only had one player that could receive the ball and run forward and kick the ball.

Too many of our players play flat footed at the stoppages, plus we don't have many players with "standing start" speed.

This is one reason we could do with a Daisy Thomas because of his ability at stoppages ... reads it well, one touch player, standing start speed.

Yes Kruz usually either side steps his opponent, taps to his left short and on occasion rips one.

He should focus more on his leap than were his opponent is as he takes his eyes off the ball moments before he jumps, making it hard for himself for the best judgement,.

Kreuzer could be a very good tapruck but he is been mismanaged.

What the !@#$ is the midfield coach doing anyway. :banghead:

We had a very peculiar set up at centre bounces. Two of our players had their backs to the goal ... this means if they did receive the tap out then they are not in a position to run full steam ahead towards our goal.

The problem at our stoppages is not Kruezer or Warnock or Hampson but our flat footed players at stoppages.

Ask yourself something ... how many of our players have "standing start" speed.

We could sure do with a Dale Thomas at the stoppages

Not sure why you would prefer Knockers as #1 ruck to Kreuzer. If anyone just taps the ball to their feet, it's Knockers. Kreuzer has tapped well to advantage at times, but frankly the best of the three is probably Hammer, he actually palms it somewhere more often than not, maybe not the centre bounces so much (I agree our setup there is average). It's disappointing for me coming from a basketball background (yonks ago) where you seem to be more aware of where players are around you and probably play more set plays to get someone the ball, screening, blocking, that sort of thing. It's not rocket science. We just tap nowhere and make it hard for ourselves.

..we're just talking in regards to tapwork/skill.. ..you reckon that Krooz is "terrible", and when i give you his actual hitout to adv %s, you say you don't care for the stat.. ..you obviously have your opinion, but it's close-minded, locked to what you thought from who knows when, and when given evidence you metaphorically stick your fingers in your ears.. ..either that, or you must have exceedingly high expectations of a ruck's actual tapwork, cos compared to his peers Krooz's ruck work is pretty good..

..i regularly check the hitouts and hitout to adv numbers, and not just of Krooz but most rucks in general.. ..rucks have good games and not so good games in the taps, plenty is them and plenty is their midfield set-ups..

..just out of curiosity, what sort of percentages do you think a good ruck should be getting in regards to hitouts to adv?

Again BKB, not sure how or where you get your stats but what I know is what I see.
Kruezers ruck work is inferior to a lot of others. Someone mentioned Hampson is our best tap ruck-man, yep he is better than Warnock around the ground but pure tap work, Warnock easily.
As I said I rate Kruezer a lot but I'm not blinded by the other things to point out his negatives.

I don't prefer Warnock to Kruezer. When I edited the quotes from others somehow stuffed up. Below are my comments.

..gotta check the paper, either age or hun will have the hitout to adv number breakdowns on their review of the game with stats.. ..fer some reason the 'net version of the same article will have the player stats, but the team breakdown, scoring opportunities, hit breakdowns etc etc are only on the printed paper..

..i will concede that i don't know how the stats ppl [i think champ data run them?] classify a hitout to adv, but generally speaking Krooz' hitout to adv numbers are favourably comparable to his peers over the course of a season.. ..there will be games where conditions or opponent will see any given rucks' hitout to adv % be poor, and likewise there will be games where a ruck will dominate in the tap, not just with overall taps but more importantly hitout to adv numbers.. ..and of course midfield set-ups are Half the battle, and currently ours is poor and no ruck we play will get the best out of themselves due to poor midfield setups..
