At first I read the headline to mean Stephen Wells had been signed to be the 2IC in our recruiting dept?!

A little apostrophe wouldn't go astray. :P

I thought the same

Turns out the Cats trumped us on this the other day
geelongcats.com.au on April 30th wrote:
Long-time Geelong recruiter Luke Williams will be leaving Simonds Stadium take up a role in Carlton’s recruiting department.

Williams joined the Cats in 1999 and has worked in football operations, forward scouting and recruiting throughout his tenure with the club.

“Luke has done an outstanding job for the club since he arrived and we are sorry to see him leave,” Geelong’s list and recruiting manager Stephen Wells said.

“We obviously wish him well in the move. He has made a significant contribution to the club over 14 years here.”

Still think our communications could do with some tightening.

Well the offer is still there to come to Perc's one night and have a live debate. Perhaps the Rabbi can moderate proceedings? Tickets available at the door.

Ryan Trainor alluded to an appointment in the recruiting department in his Q&A on Tuesday night and I didn't see anyone on hear posting that article from the Geelong website on Tuesday afternoon (when it was apparently published).

But really, you are never happy unless you can have a whinge about something, are you Don? Always there to throw in a "but" upon anything positive that happens to Carlton. Good things can happen at this club Don without your constant and paranoid need to temper every bit of positivity about the club.

(and Mr Jordan too, it seems)

No ifs, buts or maybes there.

I simply like to point out areas (of which there are still quite a few) where I think the club can improve, and I will continue to do so until there's nothing left to improve. I'm certainly not alone in this, so don't really know why you've decided to come after me (...again). But hey, to each their own, and if you're happy with everything the club is doing then all power to you. I am not, I'm sorry that this bothers you, but it ain't changing.

But back on topic: Yes, in this case, while we were being told "stay tuned for a major announcement", it had already been announced elsewhere. It's not the first time it's happened either (ie. Hawks announcing their social media guru was coming here days before we announced it ourselves), and it's symptomatic of communications that still could do with improvement.

Maybe Carlton had some things to finalise regarding the appointment? Maybe they wanted to get some quotes from Williams himself before announcing the news officially? If it was published on the Geelong website on Tuesday afternoon, and therefore news at that time, why didn't anyone seem to know about it until yesterday afternoon? Maybe the article appearing on the Geelong website was backdated?

Yes, earlier in this thread you did provide an unqualified approval of the appointment. I just think that your later nit-picking about "communications" was unnecessary in the circumstances.

I don't think anyone has said that the club is perfect. And I think it's good that people question things that take place. You just come across to me as the type of person who will never really be happy. Just enjoy following a football club for the experience that it is. Good things can and do happen at the club and not every positive announcement or event needs to be viewed with suspicion. The grass is not always greener on the other side.

All duly noted. We'll agree to disagree (particularly on my "lack of enjoyment" of the game, which couldn't be further from the truth), and leave it at that

Sounds great.

Considering Geelong will finish above us does that mean that we will now sneakily take the kids they have had their eyes on?

Can't go wrong!

Try the foe list if you don't like my posts.

You'd be whining if Essendon* or Collingwood had signed Williams.
