More to your question.

I'll arrange the results to go on the website over the weekend, but the analysis I've done on our Rd1-3 picks we have traded away, isn't pretty.

We've traded away potentially 350+ more games than we have gained with our trades.

I've also noticed a couple of data errors which I'll fix. I missed all the games Gilham played for Hawthorn. I also found that the round data I had for the 2002 draft was wrong.

I've updated the website

www.affl.net.au

and added an analysis of the picks we have traded away and what the AFL averages for those Years/Rounds were.

http://affl.net.au/traded-picks.html

Not great reading especially the McKernan and O'Reily trades

I've also done some analysis on each years draft, comparing the games played for the players drafted in those years, against a "potential" number of games based on 20 games per year, capped at 200 (10 years). It highlights again how good the 1999,2000 and 2001 drafts were.

Note : If anyone wants stats on a particular selection on the National Draft, eg No 11, just PM me and link me to the topic and I can post the data.

The general theme/tone of this thread contrasts nicely with the angst in other threads about our inactivity during the 2012 trade period.

Just sayin'

Why?

I think you, and many others, are missing the overall message. We could have been trading into the draft, for example. Three middling draft picks (at least one of them a 'mature age' recruit) two years in a row is hardly investment for the future. It's neither one thing, nor the other.
