Did anyone hear one of the final callers tonight on 3AW - Jason (Agro Junior) got on and wanted to ask the boys after they were "waxing lyrical" about West Coasts midfield - Judd, Cousins, Kerr etc.

He asked Gary Lyon - "If the West Coast mid-field was so good how come they couldn't beat Carlton last Saturday Night/"

Lyon was near speechless and muttered "Good point Jason, very good point." 8)

Then went quickly to another call.

I heard that - excellent. Must have been TC's night on 3AW. Dwayne - Brendan Fevola is on the same level as Nathan Thompson  - read out my email about interviewing John Elliott.

Hope you had a great weekend Agro.

Dwayne Russell for some reason has an intense dislike of Carlton (despite his friendship with Braddles). He's more than happy to stick the boots in whenever he can, and is very reluctant to praise when things are going well.

I heard the opening segment as well on 3AW. I agree that his statement that Fevola was still in the same class as Thompson, Rocca, etc. was completely absurd. It's interesting that in his elite class of power forwards, he included Chad Cornes (as well as Hall, Tredrea, Brown, Riewoldt, etc.). Now Cornes had a ripper year playing as a loose defender in 2004. And prior to that, he's been a good forward. But I don't see him in the elite class of power forwards. He never kicked that many goals. (Yet another example of Russell's strange vision of the football world!)

Whilst I think that seeing Elliott given airtime over and over is somewhere between tedious and amusing I don't think it "harms the brand" at all. Quite the opposite in fact. By dragging up in front of the cameras a pisshead who's obviously past his time and has recently been declared bankrupt all it really does is cement in the footy world's mind how far we've come in such a short space of time and how far from any meaningful role in the football world Jack now is.

Elliott is old Carlton, Pagan and his team are new Carlton.

It doesn't hurt us to have the rest of the footy world reminded of this occasionally.

I also thought that it was funny that Jack has replaced Amanda with a younger version that is a dead set ringer for her ... How desperate would she have to be  At least, Amanda could say it was for the money.

ESPN over here have banned Jack interviews so unfortunately I missed the coverage  , but his attitude smacks a little when you think that Collo extended the olive branch to him recently, when a lesser man would have still held a grudge. It's also pleasing that Sticks has now started calling a spade a spade and is no longer making excuses for him. The guy now has nowhere to hide as the facade has well and truly been lifted.

As for Sav, he was a Richmond supporter growing up but was very keen on coming to Carlton after being cut from Collingwood. Unfortunately, Carlton refused to trade for him and believed they could nab him in the draft. In hindsight, it's probably worked out for the best for both parties and Sav couldn't be happier at North. Stef, FWIW, I think Sav will be remembered as an elite forward when he hangs up the boots. He will have booted over 700 goals in his career and finish up in the top 20 goal kickers of all time.
