Reminds me of the good old days when people flocked to the Social Club in October to watch a replay of the 1970 & 1972 GFinals (IIRC) on a big screen set up on the Oval

Any body who deals with the general public would shudder at the thought of this...

I've always found the club to be very inclusive when they ring up to sell the $200 raffle tickets.

I might ask them about it next time they call.

Raffle Ticket Seller: How do you think the boys went on the weekend?!

Me: I think Sporn and Chambers played well

Raffle Ticket Seller: Yeah it was a great win wasn't it.

Me: *hang up*

Me: I'm always happy to help, but I'm a Blue Believer too, so I think I've given enough.
Ticket seller: That's good to hear. But belief can only get a team so far.

It's no surprise that the club doesn't do these sorts of activities to engage a bit more with the fans. There's no harm in doing it...brings people to the club, creates another source of revenue, keeps the supporters and the members happy, which in turn attracts more people. If Carlton made a Grand Final they'd have no other option but to put on a function of the like - failure to do so would be very poor to say the least.

I've no problem from a personal point of view with the club not putting on these events when the team plays interstate as I have Foxtel or can go to the pub and watch it. But what about families? What about the ones who don't have Foxtel or can't take the family down to the pub for whatever reason? Nonetheless, it would still be nice to have the club open to watch the game as an option.

Although, they cannot even hire someone with people skills or basic manners to serve behind the counter in the shop... was in there the other day and the s**t behind the cash register spoke with the utmost contempt for the customers, an attitude and overall lack of respect. She was a disgrace.

The club have a lot of work to do before they can be level-pegging with opposition clubs in engaging with the fans (for instance, they can start with getting the aforementioned scrag sakced), and it's this that sets us apart from Collingwood. Say what you like about them as a club, we all despise them, however, they are a very well run organisation who are inclusive of the fans at every opportunity.

There may be things higher on the agenda, but I see no problem with making the club a more inclusive place for the supporters and members on matchday. To them we're but a cash-cow who coughs up the hard-earned at the start of every season, but even so, running events like this could surely attract more members, and hence, more "cash-cows"...

Wow!!!!
They still haven't sacked that girl??? .....Hard to know how many unbelievably bad, rude self indulgent sales girls they can have in one shop. seriously, I'm talking 2 years ago for my experience...spoke to the manager after..(called cos I was still pissed off when I got home)and she was lovely.i asked then why the staff weren't properly trained in customer service, and how they can continue to work there without meeting basic standards of courtesy, if not helpfulness.
She assured me, she'd look in to it, and apologised very nicely.
Would not go back though...unless they ran a shiny new campaign advising of new staff, and new attitutude.

Caller: Enjoy the game on the weekend?

Me: Yeah, thought Simon Wiggins played really well!

Caller: Yeah he stood out for me to!

Me: Sorry, gotta go!
