Ted Whitten played CHB, CHF, ruck, anywhere and was unbeatable everywhere.

T.H.I.S. is soooo true

As an aside, Whitten was known as "Mr Futbol" although some thought that title should be held by Ronald Dale Barassi.
Whitten answered that by naming Barassi "Mrs Futbol".

As an aside, as South Australian I have a different nickname for EJ.

A friendly name I'm sure.
Did you have a nickname for John Peck the Hawthorn full–forward ?

Oh, the club has confirmed Lachie is injured at the moment. They reckon he'll be out for 8 weeks, back in full training during the NAB Cup...

Zero.

Henderson is suddenly too slow and poor overhead to be a key forward.

And he's a poor kick for goal.

Case for the defence
Leigh Matthews wrote:
While there may have been some question marks on his physical athleticism, I always thought if his body could get him through he had the character to be a good player.

His Achilles heel has always been his acceleration and agility, both as a forward looking to get off his opponent and a defender looking to stay with a leading forward.

Jarrad Waite, Andrew Walker, Matthew Kreuzer and Matthew Warnock give the Blues plenty of marking power, while even ground-level crumbers Eddie Betts and Jeff Garlett will get on the end of passes directed to them.

I give up

The premise of the article is enough to give up. Walls would have had strips torn off him if he had penned that article. Lethal flys under the radar because he's a former great. The semi-senile Leigh Matthews must have missed Henderson's games against Geelong, Fremantle, Hawthorn, Sydney and Brisbane. With a full tank, Lachie didn't have a problem getting separation on Tarrant and marking up the ground. Kennedy and Cloke wouldn't be faster than Henderson. Sounds like history repeating after everyone wrote off Kennedy as too big and too slow.

To be fair to Lethal, he was talking about the time he was Henderson's coach rather than the last 2 years. He saw him every day, matched against Brown, Bradshaw, Merrett etc. So i guess we can back his judgement.

Matthews also spoke about Jamison being a bolter this year. Yet Jamo only held Bradshaw and Jack Riewoldt every time they met. Former coaches reach their use by date for a reason.

Don't be precious; the only thing wrong with that article is what might be a slight misapprehension of what innate qualities Henderson may have if he is to be a key defender. However, he is dead right on how our match-ups may need to work. The fact that he is not gushing about Carlton is just his opinion.

I think he's right. Henderson, like Kennedy, is slightly on the slow side compared to some other super-athletic key position forwards like Buddy and Nick Riewoldt. Cloke also would be faster. None of this means that, like Kennedy, he cannot become a very good player. There are other ways to get 'separation' apart from sheer speed. Like running harder than your opponent. Like being smarter. Like getting blocks from teammates.

..Hendo is a bonafide KPP.. ..capable of playing fwd and back, but will always be a better CHF because he plays that role in a j.brown style [old school].. ..he'll roam, continually present and use angles.. ..he'll be better suited directing play vs reacting to it.. ..will be a good kpd, just i believe will be a better kpf..
