There are a number of players who need to become leaders both on and off field before you could seriously consider anyone to replace Judd.

its sad, but in the good old days, people like sos, peter dean, earl spalding etc etc and many, many others, led the way without ever seriously considered to be captain for the mighty blues.

The standards (and expectations) are much tougher today than they were in those days; the salaries will tell you that.

Judd has no peer.
Hodge imo is close second.
I have time for an unproven Reiwoldt as an inspirational leader.

Leaders can't always win you the game, but they do win you plenty and Judd undisputedly does for his team like no other.
Geelong will survive and continue to be competitive (even flag contenders 2011) without Ablett such is the spread of class.

But for pure inspirational, skill and persona Judd is GOD.
He will be when he wins his next Brownlow in the next 4 years...imo.

Judd is a seriously good leader
Simpson is like a spiritual leader and growing all the time... we need more spiritual leaders like Geelong had Rooke for example.

C - Judd
VC - Simpson

Judd is the man.
Yes, we need more 'men' but that doesn't happen just by giving someone a title, Grant, just like you don't need a title to lead the team.

We really need others to step up in 2011. I am hoping the Collingwood's success in 2010 will help light the way for some of our younger boys who seem happy coasting along on their own 'brilliance'.

Hodge was clearly the premier leader at the Hawks, without being Captain.
Hayes is clearly a strong leader at the Saints in addition to Reiwoldt.
Nick Maxwell has grown a foot taller, it seems, since he was made leader but the Pies didn't seem to have anyone obvious sticking their hands up when he was appointed, while we clearly do.
I find it interesting that Jamo is often cited as a leader by the playing and coaching group.

As soon as the players put their hands up and lead, this will be reflected in more consistency and resiience on the field.
This simply requires an uncompromising commitment to the team, its behaviours and performance - on and off the field.
Sydney offers the best model of recent times. Geelong has done it well over the last few years. And probably the great Lions team and the Bombers of 2000. The Saints have shown it at times (2009) but they are also undermined by their difficult 'panic' culture when faced with the prospect of success (eg. Saints supporters who are convinced they will lose when up by 8goals at 3/4 time...)

Judd is a great Captain and will lead us to our next flag.

I agree Judd is a great Captain and I hope this turns out to be true. My original post was not meant to be stirring trouble.. I was wondering whether this would be an unorthodox way to make the others step up to the level we will require to win number 17.

Congratulations ... worse thread title EVER .. I see what you are trying to say but c'mon.

If Carlton was a gun Judd would be the bullets.

Does the OP not see where we have come in the three years he as been with us?

Do not know of many recruits given the Captaincy straight off (is there another case?)

We as Blues fans are impatient, to be sure, but how good do we all feel about the future, positive?

Well it all started with Judd (really Pratt god rest his soul).. and if one person says he has not given 200% for the club, shown great leadership to our youth and has done all he can and more ... and will continue to do so ... well I'll gouge out yer eyes and spread em on me toast!

C'mon mate. Of course Juddy is our captain and will remain so.

He may not lead when it comes to stiring verbal addresses....but his on field leadership is second to none.

Besides who else replaces him?
