He's just gone some way to justifying his recruitment :smoking: .

I don't know anything about Petroro so no idea if he's lying,

But surely one possible motivation for his statement ma be to get other clubs to think about the option of McDonald playing on for a year or so in a mentoring role?

Maybe everyone thinks his retirement is official, and Tom is just trying to combat that impression.

Would love to have Junior as a coach

No reason to. Least likely of the scenarios.

Scenario 1: Swann is lying - we've spoken to him about playing with Carlton in 2011.
Scenario 2: Petroro is lying - we haven't spoken with him about playing in 2011.
Scenario 3: McLean is lying - just how many Development coaches can you have?

Scenario 4: Nobody's lying and he's being sounded out as playing coach of the bullants.

Brock has confirmed on his Twitter page that we are into McDonald as a development coach, not as a player

I'm sure the club are thrilled with Brock giving updates about the club on Twitter.

Excellent use of the medium. Might have even gone something like this...

Swann: Shit that interview with KB wasn't very convincing...
Ratts: Hmmm...what do we do?
Coutts: Hey, apparently there's this thing called Twitter...some of the players communicate on it
Ratts: Who are they communicating with?
Coutts: Not sure...
Swann: How's it work?
Coutts: Fair suck of the sauce bottle Swanny, I'm Communications Manager, not Bill Gates!
@Chooka_86: G'day fellas
All: G'day Brock...hey mate - what's Twitter?

Coutts is a twit, I mean a Twitter user.

Well it seems that Greg begs to differ!

The Carlton Football Club today quashed reports that it had expressed an interest in recruiting recently-retired Melbourne captain James McDonald.

Carlton CEO Greg Swann told carltonfc.com.au, “the Club has neither spoken to James or his management about extending his playing career at the Carlton Football Club in 2011”.

“James has been a fantastic player for Melbourne, but at 34, he doesn’t fit into our long term plans,” he added.

No beating around the bush there

Captain coach of the bullants, part time development coach as Teague was in the first year coaching the Bullants. Teague upgraded as an assistant coach.

Denying the James Macdonald story. Not even chasing him as an assistant.

"We have some other things happening"

Jacobs is the only one who has asked to be traded.
Walker is testing the water
Grigg - we are "reasonably close" with his contract negotiattions.
Setanta and thornton contracted - "we'll see what happens"

We have spoken to Barker

Brennan - likely GC bound
Thursfield/Tambling- not on our radar
Not interested in M Warnock "At this stage"

Grigg: We will let that little porkie go through to the keeper

Maybe he's bitter about not winning the Brownlow?

Meh, Swann probably did expect him to re-sign and technically we were close with the negotiations, Grigg just didn't agree to it.
