As soon as someone invokes the work 'tradition', the alarm bells go off.

For me, 'tradition' is a four letter word, and has the following definition:

"Security blanket comfort zone retained at the expense of progress and improvement."

Couldn't care less about our having an 'away' jumper, and in fact I prefer it. It means another income stream for the club, and we're seen more as innovators. St Kilda in particular (and I can't believe I'm saying this) have been at the forefront of recognising the advantages of an alternative jumper, and I'm confident they're reaping the benefits.

A bit like "pride".

Stops people from assessing a situation logically and sensibly.

Summary of topic:

The Navy Blue jumper is far better than the white thing.

Until each team plays each other the same number of times, the AFL, as a fair dinkum competition, cannot be taken seriously.

He (Mr Swann) said the honour and pride associated with the club's traditional navy blue jumper was priceless.
